Flute Player | Educator | Recording Artist
Began her musical education in the celebrated non-profit institution “El Sistema”, Venezuela.
Prior to her arrival to the US, she held positions as principal flutist in different symphony orchestras for about 10 years, participated in competitions, premiered flute compositions, and conducted, arranged, and composed.
As a chamber musician, she played with the Woodwind Quintet of Merida State, the Woodwind Quintet of Caracas, and the Andrews University Woodwind Quintet.
During her undergraduate studies in Michigan, she performed as a soloist in numerous concerts, won various competitions, played with faculty members, and coached in masterclasses.
She first started teaching at the age of fifteen and has been part of a diverse number of educational music projects since then. She currently works at MYCincinnati, a non-profit music institution that provides access to free music education to underserved youth in Ohio.
Ms. Cañas has received instruction from world-renowned artists in the course of her career and has been the recipient of multiple merit scholarships.
She is pursuing both, a Master's degree in flute performance at the University of Cincinnati, and an Artist Diploma at OAcademy.
During her free time, she likes exploring the creative endeavors of improvisation and popular music.
Betania has a cat who she adores, Marco Polo.
